Given

  •  \sf \: a =  \frac{ - 4}{9} \:  \:  \:  b =  \frac{7}{3} \:  \:  \:   c =  \frac{11}{6}

Show That

  • (a - b) - c ≠a - (b - c)

Let

 \sf \: LHS = (a - b) - c

\sf \: LHS = (   \frac{ - 4}{9}  -( \frac{7}{3} )) -  \frac{11 }{6}

\sf \: LHS = (   \frac{ - 4}{9}  - \frac{7}{3} ) -  \frac{11 }{6}

\sf \: LHS = (   \frac{ - 4 - 21 }{9}   ) -  \frac{11 }{6}

\sf \: LHS = \frac{ - 25}{9}   -  \frac{11 }{6}

\sf \: LHS = \frac{ - 50 - 33}{18}

\sf \: LHS = \frac{ - 83}{18} \\  \\  \\

 \sf \: RHS = a - (b - c)

\sf \: RHS =  \frac{ - 4}{9}  - ( \frac{7}{3}  -  \frac{11}{6} )

\sf \: RHS =  \frac{ - 4}{9}  - ( \frac{14 - 11}{6}   )

\sf \: RHS =  \frac{ - 4}{9}  - \frac{3}{6}

\sf \: RHS =  \frac{ - 8 - 9}{18}

\sf \: RHS =  \frac{ - 17}{18}

LHS≠ RHS

  • Hence (a - b) - c ≠a - (b - c)
