The poem's central idea is the problems faced by the father who wishes to mend the differences with his son so that he can be with him. The Poem emphasises the helplessness, pain and the love of a father for his son. It highlights the problem of generation gap. It gives words to the pain faced by the parents when they are distanced from their children be it physically or emotionally.
