The Kerala flood started on 15 august due to the unusually high rainfall in the southern part of the country.Over 483 people died and more than a thousand lost their homes. Atleast a million people were evacuated from their homes a d moved to camps. All the fourteen districts were placed on red alert. It was the worst flood in Kerala after the great flood of 99 that happened in 1924.Thirty-five out of the fifty-four dams within the state were opened for the first time in history.
