In India, women still lag behind than men, despite some improvements, since Independence. Women face a lot of discrimination and oppression in various ways:
1. The literacy rate among women is about 54%, as compared to the 76% of men.
2. The proportion of women among the highly paid and valued jobs is still very low.
An average Indian women works more than an hour than an average man works.
3. Similarly, a smaller proportion of girls go for higher studies. Girls perform greater than that of boys, but they drop out because parents prefer to spend their resources to boys education than girls education.
Hope this helps you.
