While the Indus Valley Civilisation developed on the bank of river Indus, the Mesopotamian Civilisation developed on the banks of rivers Euphrates and Tigris.

While theory of Kingship or a ruler class has not been proved for Indus Valley, the Mesopotamians were ruled by a priest King, who was considered to be divine. That King solved disputes, led administration and had an army too.

While no special places of worship have been found in Indus Valley, it is assumed that these people worshipped nature. However, presence of different religious objects such as seals, statues etc. indicate that Indus Valley might be having a polytheistic religion. In Mesopotamia also, polytheism was present but the Mesopotamians also built temple for worship. There were many temples in the Mesopotamian civilisation.

The script of the Indus Valley Civilisation has not been deciphered till yet but thousands of writings on various subjects have been found at Mesopotamia. We thus, have a very comprehensive knowledge about the latter civilisation.

In India, early stone seals were stamped. In Mesopotamia until the end of the first millennium BCE, cylindrical stone seals, pierced down the centre, were fitted with a stick and rolled over wet clay so that a continuous picture was created.

The drainage system of the Indus Valley Civilisation was much more sophisticated than the Mesopotamian.

The Harppan people were peaceful in comparison to the Mesopotamians.
