5 unit becomes 5*10=50
Area of p=40*x
10%=1/10
10 unit =40*x/10=4*x
9 unit becomes 9*4*x=36*x - - - 1
Area of q=50*y----2
Solved eqn1 & eqn2
X/y=50/36
=25/18

This Question is pretty easy than it looks :-

Given :- Length of Rectangle P = 40 cm , Breadth of Rectangle P = x cm

             Length of Rectangle Q = 25 % more than Length of P

             Breadth of Rectangle Q = y cm

Solution :- First we will find the length of Q

                 ∴ Length of Q = 25 % more than length of P

                                         = 25 % more than 40 cm

               [ ∴ 25 % of 40 cm = 10 cm ]

                 ∴ Length of Q = 40 + 10 = 50 cm

Now Finding the Areas of the Rectangle's :-

Area of a Rectangle = Length × Breadth

∴ Area of Rectangle P  =  40 × (x)

∴ Area of Rectangle Q  =  50 × (y)

Given :- Area of Q is 10 % less than area of P

∴                       40x :  100 %

                        50y :  90 %    ...(Taking Area of Q  10% less than Area of P)  

∴ By Cross Multiplying

3600x  =  5000y

∴  x / y  =  5000 / 3600

            =  50 / 36                   ... ( Dividing by 100 )

            =  25 / 18                    ... ( Dividing by 2 )

Hence the Simplest form of x / y  =  25 / 18

Answer :- x / y  =  25 / 18
