STEP BY STEP EXPLANATION :

 =  \frac{1}{3 }  + ( -   \frac{4}{8}  )

 =  \frac{1}{3}  -  \frac{4}{8}

 =  \frac{1}{3}  -  \frac{1}{2}

by LCM

 =  \frac{2}{6}  -  \frac{3}{6}

 =  -  \frac{1}{6}

CONCLUSION :

So the solution is -1/6
