✯ Given :-

  • There are 50 numbers.
  • Each number is substracted from 53, then the mean of the numbers obtained is - 3.5.

✯ To Find :-

  • Find the mean of the numbers.

✯ Solution :-

» Let, the 50 numbers be x

» And, the sum of the 50 numbers be 50x

» Hence, - 3.5 is substracted from the each number.

According to the question,

\dfrac{53 × 50 - 50x}{50} = - 3.5

\dfrac{2650 - 50x}{50} = - 3.5

2650 - 50x = - 175

- 50x = - 2650 - 175

- 50x = - 2825

x = \sf\dfrac{\cancel{- 2825}}{\cancel{- 50}}

x = 56.5

\therefore The mean of 50 numbers is 56.5 .
