Answer:

1) Tap water contains dissolved salts in it. These salts dissociates into ions when electricity passed through it which are responsible for the electricity conductivity of tap water. But distilled water does not contain any dissolved salts, so it does not conduct electricity.

2) Tin cans are thin electroplated on iron. These tin cans are used to preserve food items. Because tin is less reactive than iron as it will prevent food from being poisoned.

3) Thus metal to be electroplated is always made cathode else at anode its oxidation will occur and it will get dissolved into the solution as ions. It is because the meterial to be electroplated has to gain the coating of the other metal .

4) The chromium metal is suitable for electroplating it on car bumpers, bath taps and bicycle handlebars, etc., made of iron because it is corrosion resistant and also gives shiny appearance.
