Three friends have given or expensed Rs 3000. But the servant returned Rs 500. So, the three friends got Rs 500 or they expensed Rs 2500. Right?
Then they decided to give Rs 200 as a tip to the servant. So now, they have Rs 300 out of Rs 500 or they expensed Rs(2500+ 200)=Rs 2700. So total is Rs (2700+300) =Rs 3000.

The above is the actual calculation...

Now, in the question they're confusing the reader in the 2nd paragraph. They're solving like this -
( 3 friends × Rs 900) + (Rs 200) =Rs 2900.
But y they're adding Rs 200 AGAIN ?? It's already in the calculation !! Because when the servant returned Rs 500 they actually expensed Rs 2500 (Rs 200 as tip for the servant is not included), but when they are adding Rs 200, the overall expense is Rs 2700. The remaining Rs 300 is the cash back money which they received from the servant because if they give Rs 200 as a tip then Rs (500 - 200) = Rs 300 is the income which has to b actually added with Rs 2700. That is
Rs 2700(total expenses) + Rs 300(income) =Rs 3000...

U have asked this question 4 times here... Now hope it helped you a lot...
