Can anyone suggest tips for solving trigonometric proofs ?

For proving just keep a rough idea in mind that you need to get the RHS or LHS anyhow. If you have tan, sec or code then turn them to their respective reciprocals. You might find trigonometry quite weired but solve as much as u can because the trigonometric solutions are pretty much different from our basic concept of solving an equation.
