Introduction to Raga -
1) This raga is also known as Raga Kalyan. The origin of this melody is from Kalyan Thaat, hence it is also called Asavar Raga (when the origin of a chord is from the same name). During the Mughal regime, Muslims started to call this Raga Rajan Yemen or Raga Eman.
2) The characteristic of this melody is that the intense medium is used in it. All the other voices look pure.
3) This chant is sung in the first night or evening of the night. All the tones are used in its mounts and descents, hence its caste is the complete (see definition).
4) The plaintive voice is - c conversational - N

Yaman is a heptatonic (sampurna, complete) Indian classical 'raga' of kalyan thaat.
