can anyone tell me that if the smallest unit of any matter is atom then why we can't call the basic unit of the body as atom instead of cell

Dear , Atoms are just small particles in the cell. Everything material is made out of atoms, no exception (except for the atoms themselves — these are composed suBatomic Particles.
In cells, the most commonly occurring atoms are C, H, O, P, and N (only an iodine atom short of a composer of symphonies!), but Life requires many more (at least 24 different elements).
So , We call it as atom only - We can't call it as a unit of cell.
