Osmosis in a nutshell: When two volumes of liquid with a dissolved compound are separated by a semipermeable membrane the liquid (lets assume this is water for the remainder of this answer) will move across the membrane towards the volume with the highest concentration of dissolved compound.

osmosis is a peculiar type of the process of diffision
definition
water molecule pass from their region of higher concentration (i.e to the hypertonic region) through the semipermable membrane kept between to solution having different cocentration this process is known as osmosis
Osmosis does not occur through the cell membrane between the two isotonic solution
Example: dried grape (kismis)or apricot when placed in water, sweet after sometime
fresh grape or fresh apricot when placed in concentration salt or sugar solution loses water by osmosis and shrinks

SethRollins1: well you should elaborate your anawer
