1)Yes it can be...
2)By bringing a burning splinter at the mouth of releasing gas if it extiguishes with a pop sound then it is confirmed as H2 gas

yes combination reaction can be oxidation reaction,
as on reaction
HNO3+NaOH+NaNO3+H2O
Here
HNO3 has been oxidisi due to loss of H (electropositive elements)..
so it is proved..
to check whether hydrogen gas is evolving you can react burn it in air .
it will give a pop!!! sounds
