No displacement cannot be greater than displacement it is because displacement being a vector quantity (quantity which changes either by changing direction or magnitude) changes when we change the direction of the object moving but distance is a scalar quantity(quantity which do not deal with direction) . To justify it I would like to take help of an example suppose a car is travelling a distance of 10m from his home to office then he again goes back to his home so his initial point is same as his final point so displacement( shortest path between initial and final point) is 0 and the distance (total distance) is 10+10=20
