can distance be less than the magnitude of dis-

HELLO DEAR,

NO,

  • It never possible that distance will less than the magnitude of displacement.
  • Because distance is a scaler quantity which depends on path followed by object but displacement is a vector quantity which depends on shortest ditance between intial position to final position.
  • Therefore from above conclusion we can uderstand that in any condition distance is equal to or greater than displacement, never less than displacement.
  • Example - Moving of a body on circular path ,here its distance = perimeter of circular path = 2πr.But displacement is zero on a complete round because its initial and final postion concide at a point.
