Explanation:

By sign convention,

• All the distance in the direction of incident light is taken as positive and those in the direction against the direction of incident ray is taken as negative. See fig.

In this fig a here is a convex lens ,

So, u= -ve (always)

v= -ve in virtual image

+ve in real image

f = +ve in convex lens

R1 = -ve and R2 = +ve .

Similarly in fig c also.

In fig b, here is a concave lens,

So, u= -ve

v= - ve

f = - ve

R1 = -ve and R2 = +ve.

In fig d, here is a convexo-concave lens,

So, u= -ve

v= - ve

f = - ve

R1 = +ve and R2 = +ve.
