Can focal length of convex lens be negative

While generally we consider the lens to have a positive focal length, which is due to the fact that it converges, it may also be negative.

When the medium between atmosphere in which lens is kept changes (i.e becomes more dense), the lens cannot converge and gradually diverges leading it to a negative focal length bearer.
