No food chains cannot start from an animal because most of the green plants can prepare their food and are producers or other in depend directly or indirectly on green plants but we must remember that it is the sun which gives solar energy to plants and the convert the solar energy into chemical energy of the food all the food chain start from the sun and no life exist on earth in its absence.
