Can gravitational potential energy be negative taken when a body moves from bottom to up?

In simple terms, if you solve for the force it must be negative for an attractive potential to reflect this. In a repulsive potential the sign must be changed to get the correct direction of the force.

yah as it is moving against the gravity the value of g become -g and hence force acting on a body becomes -GMm/R^2 so it will be negative
