Answer:

C) They lack protection around genetic material

Explanation:

Literally a virus is nothing more than just a small strand of DNA surrounded by a shell. A virus only moves by randomly blowing in the wind or traveling in water. Only by sheer chance will it land on the correct host it needs. But when it does the shell of it changes shape though chemical processes (the virus is in no way controlling this) and the DNA it holds is absorbed into the host cell.

Think of it sort of like a seed falling from a tree. A seed on its own it needs lots things, aka a host. In order for a seed to grow it needs soil. Although the soil is not living it serves as the host which will the seed to grow and reproduce. Thousands of seeds simply won't make it to the soil but rather land on the street, eaten by animals, or just rot on the surface of the soil.

Have a great day :)
