Freon is a registered trademark of The Chemours Company, which uses it for a number of halocarbon products. They are stable, nonflammable, moderately toxic gases or liquids which have typically beenused as refrigerants and as aerosol propellants.

and uses

Freon is not only used in air conditioning units, but it has also been used in upright and chest freezers. On top of those, there are a large number of commercial and industrial appliances that use Freon in both food transportation and cold storage warehouses. Even dehumidifiers use R-22.

You can identify which coolant is being used in your AC system by looking at the nameplate. This should provide a great deal of information about your unit, including safety certifications and electrical ratings. This information is probably located on the outdoor condenser unit, or else you can contact the manufacturer to find out where this plate would be located.

Hey !!

FREON :- The chlorofluorocarbon compounds of methane in which all the H ---- atoms are replaced by halogen atoms are collectively called freons. These are further classified on the basis of number of fluorine atoms present in them.

Example :- CF₄ (Freon - 14) ,CF₃Cl (Freon - 13) , CF₂Cl₂ (Freon - 12) , CFCl₃ (Freon - 11)

REACTION :- 3 CCl₄ + 2 SbF₃ --(SbCl₅)--> 3 CCl₂F₂ (Freon-12) + 2 SbCl₃

USES OF FREON

Freon is an odourless , non-corrosive , non-toxic gas which is stable even at high temperature and pressures. It has low boiling point, low specific heat and can be easily liquefied by applying pressure at room temperature. It is therefore, widely used as a refrigerant ( cooling agent ) in refrigerators and air conditioners.

       It is also used as a propellant in aerosols and foams ( hair sprays , deodorants , shaving creams etc. )

Good luck !!
