The president is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. The president can declare war or conclude peace, on the advice of the Union Council of Ministers headed by the prime minister. All important treaties and contracts are made in the president's name.

Answer:

Hey Subhra,

Your friend Aveek here. I'm here to help you out.

Here goes your answer-

The President has only nominal powers among which most of them are carried out by the prime minister. The President acts on the advice of the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers in India and is the nominal head. A voting body called the Electoral College elects the President of India. The President shall hold office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office.

Importance of the president-

1. He is known as the 1st Citizen of India

2. President has the power to declare war or declare peace against a war.

3. He commands the Armed Forces i.e., he is the main commander in chief

4. He can veto bills and sign bills.

5. He can call out troops to protect our nation against an attack.

Hope it helps.
