CN is a ambident neuclophile,means two neuclophilic centres hence it can attack from both sides,-c as well as -N.

KCN is ionic bond hence heterolytic fission takes place

KCN→k+ + cl-

R-x + kCN → R-CN + KX

IN CASE OF AgCN,It is a covalent hence homolytic fission takes place

AgCN→ Ag· + CN· ( in this case nitrogen has three electrons on it while carbon has one hence neuclophile attack on NITROGEN SIDE

RX+AgCN→R- NC + AgX
