Flexibility of a physical substance is completely dependent on the molecular structure of that particular substance.

We can artificially tweak the molecular arrangement of a substance to increase or decrease the physical flexibility of that substance.

And it is applicable for metals, plastic and pottery also, these substances also have different amount of physical flexibility.

Yes, Can metals, pottery and plastics be both, “rigid and flexible”.

Explanation:

  • Metals, pottery and plastics are rigid.
  • At room temperature most of the metals are present in the solid state hence, metals are rigid. By heating the metal it will be melted means it is flexible.
  • Plastics are completely made up of polymers. These are rigid at room temperature and then converted to liquids by applying of heat.
  • Pottery is prepared by the clay hence, these are rigid. If pottery is dipped into the water the clay particles are dissolved then get flexibility.
