Plants cannot absorb nitrogen from the atmosphere directly.This is because of the plants don't need nitrogen for photosynthesis,transpiration or other process directly.So,plants absorb nitrogen by nitrogen fixation into the root nodules of plants by lightning or any other natural processess.
