Yup , it can because in distilled water the amount of impurities in the distilled water is very low .

→The solubility of water will increase .

→It can easily dissolve O2 .

Now , we have a sufficient amount of O2 and water to rust iron .

Fe + O2 +H2O→Fe2O3•nH2O
