Yes the value of sin can be negative.In 11th class we have an identity which says that

As we all know in Class 10th we have learn that
Cos (90-theta)=Sin theta
Similarly in the 11th class we will learn that
Cos (90+theta)= -Sin theta
if we put the values in it we will also get the value of sin theta as negative.
Also if we plot the graph of trigonometric ratios Sin theta will be negative in 3RD AND 4TH QUADRANT.
For eg:-Sin 210°= -1/_/2
