Can sodium hydroxide solution be used to distinguish between ferrous sulphate and ferric sulphate solution. If so, how.

Yes, on addition of sodium hydroxide solution to ferrous sulphate, it forms a dirty green precipitate of ferrous hydroxide.

On addition of sodium hydroxide solution to ferric sulphate, it forms a reddish brown precipitate ferric hydroxide.
