a)the tribal groups were considered important people because it is they who their territories

before brutish rule tribal chiefs had rights and some money to manage their lands and people.

b)but under british rule they lost much of their power and were asked to follow britsh laws

this subjugation meant that tribal chiefs lost their autorities and the right to fulfill their traditional needs
