When HCl is mixed with phenolphthalein which already has NaOH in it, its colour becomes colourless!

Its because the phenolphthalein only changes its colour with Basic solutions, and when HCl is added to NaOH, it neutralizes and the pink colour disappears!

When we then add again NaOh to phenolphthalein, it becomes Pink again because NaOh is A basic solution and phenolphthalein gives pink colour to Bases!

hope this helps ;)
