Answer:
A compound microscope is a microscope that uses two lenses to magnify the object placed in its stage area.
Explanation:
It is different from a simple microscope due to the number of lenses used as a simple Microscope uses 1 lens and it uses 2 lenses
Parts of the compound Microscope can be divided into 2 parts
Optical and non Optical parts.
Optical Parts-
- Resolving nose piece - It is a circular metal plate to which an objective lens is attached.
- Objectives lenses - It is used to magnify the object kept on the mechanical stage.
- Condenser- It gathers all the light and concentrates it on the specimen present on the stage.
- Diaphragm - It is also known as the iris, it controls the amount and shape of the light that passes through the condenser lens of a microscope.
- Reflector- It directs light, from an illuminator which is placed at a 90-degree angle.
Non-Optical Parts-
- Mechanical Stage - Stage where slides/objects are kept.
- Rack and pinion substage -To focus the object the rack and pinion are joined to the body tube.
- Fine knobs - Used for focussing finer details of the specimen
- Coarse knob- Used for quick focusing by moving the objective lens or stage up or down.
- Clip -Provide support to the slide on the microscope.
- Arm - Metallic handle used to support the stage and body tube.
- Draw tube - Long tube to hold the objective and ocular lenses.
- Inclination joint- It allows the microscope to tilt.
- Pillar- It is a Vertical projection that helps the microscope to stand.
- Eyepiece- It is also known as ocular. It is used to see the specimen present on the stage.
- Foot- It provides front support to the microscope.
- Base- It provides back support to the microscope.
