Can someone explain me how can I find an element in periodic table just by it's atomic number? Also when I should add 10 to the group no and when not?

when the atomic no. is given, u can find out the no. of shells in the atom... and no. of shells = period no.
to find the group no., u need to find out the no. of valence electrons in the atom... that is how many electrons are present in the outermost shell...
if the no. of valence electrons is 1 or 2, the group no. = no. of valence electrons.

but if the no. of valence electrons is greater than 2 that is if valence electrons are between 3 - 7, u need to add 10 to the no. of valence electrons
if no. of valence electrons > 2,
group no. = no. of valence electrons+10

Aditi2501: hope it helps... :) plz mark me as brainliest if it helps uh... ;))
KrishMatrix: Okay another doubt what about elements in group 3-12??
Aditi2501: we only need to learn the elements till atomic no. 20... and no element is there in group 3-12 till atomic no. 20
KrishMatrix: Hmmm okay best of luck if you're giving the boards this year!!
KrishMatrix: Thanks for helping me out!!
Aditi2501: thanq... and welcome... ;))
