Consider this ASD to be a sector of a circle with center S. So, this AB will be the arc of the circle. How do we calculate the length of this arc?
like this:
theta/2π=AB/2πR
But, here our radius is D, so we replace R with D.
theta/2π= AB/2πD
theta = AB/D
D = AB/ theta
When, the angle theta is extremely small the path AB is assumed to be a straight line, rather than a curved path like the earth's surface look flat to us but it isnt really.
I hope you understand!
