Can someone explain to me the Heron formula?

The Heron's Formula is used to find the area of triangle with all three sides of different length and whose height is not given.
Heron's Formula is √s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c) 
                           where s = semi perimeter 
                                     a,b and c are the sides of triangle .
