Can someone explain why is the standard form divided by 1000^2 and not only 1000, whats the power for?

This is because we have to convert the values into km and in the Q it is already given for 1000 and as we know km is always 1000 so it will be multiplied by 1000.

So if you write 1000×1000 or 1000², both of them mean the same.
