Let no.of five rupee coins in the purse be: x
Let no.of two rupee coins in the purse be: y
x+y=36 ----1st eqn
5x + 2y=84 ----2nd eqn
1st eqn: x+y=36
ie. y=36-x -----3rd eqn
Sub 3rd eqn in 2nd eqn..
therefore 5x +2(36-x) =84
5x + 72-2x=84
3x =84-72
x=12/3=4
Therefore no.of five rupee coins : 5...

let the number of five rupee coins in the purse be x.
so, number of two rupee coins in the purse =36-x
value of x five rupee coins =Rs.5x
value of (36-x)two rupee coins =Rs. 2 (36-x)
=Rs.72-2x
by the condition,
5x+72-2x=84
=>3x=12
=>x=4
so , number of five rupee coins in the purse is 4.
hope it helps you....
