Hopefully you are asking for the substitution methoed for solving linear equations. Here it goes,
Two linear equation are given mostly used variables are x and y.
1. you calculate the value of any one of the two given variables (either x or y) from the 1st equation ;
2. put it in the place of that variable in the 2nd equation;
3. calculate the value of that variable from the 2nd equation;
4. finally put the value of that variable in the 1st equation to obtain the value of the other variable.
For example: Let us consider two linear equations: x+y=5 and 2x-y=7
1. x+y=5
or, x=5-y
2. 2(5-y)-y=7
3.2(5-y)-y=7
or, 10-2y-y=7
or, -3y=7-10
or, -3y=-3
or, y=1
4. x+y=5
or, x+1=5
or, x=5-1
or, x=4
x=4, y=1
