Ranilaxmi Bai also popularly known as Rani of Jhansi was the Queen of Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh. She was born on 19th November, 1828 in Varanasi and was named Manikarnika by her parents.

She was married to the King of Jhansi, Raja Gangadhar Rao and had a son named Damodar Rao in 1851. Sadly in 4 months, her son passed away and she along with Raja Gangadhar, adopted the son of his cousin and named him Damodar Rao.

Rani laxmibai was known to be the face of the 1857 rebellion against the Britishers. Her valor and courage gave the British government a very tough time.

Rani Laxmi Bai, the Rani of Jhansi ( November 1835 - 17 june 1858 ) was the queen of the Maratha ruled princely state of Jhansi.

Her father worked at the Peshwa court of Bithoor and because of his influence at court Laxmi bai had more independence than most women, who were normally restricted to the zenana.

She studied self-defence, horsemanship, archery and even formed her own army out of her female friends at court.

Rani Laxmi Bai was married to Raja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar at the early age of 7 to the Maharaja of Jhansi in 1842, and thus became the queen of Jhansi.

During her childhood , she was called by the name Manikarnika but after marriage she was called by the name Rani Laxmi Bai.

At the tender age of 4, she lost her mother. All responsibilities of raising her came over her father.

After marriage, in the year 1851 she gave birth to a son but unfortunately the child did not able to survive more than four months.

In year 1853, Gangadhar Rao ( the husband ) fell sick and become very weak and on 21st november 1853 Maharaja Gangadhar Rao died.

Rani Laxmi Bai the great and brave freedom fighter of India and also she became a national heroine and was seen as the epitome of female bravery in India.

 Rani Laxmi Bai died on 18 june 1858, during the battle of Gwalior.

Several films, documentaries and TV Movies or serials were made on her whole life.

Example, now a days Jhansi Ki Rani is the famous Indian drama series presented on  Colors TV channel which is fully based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai. ( Whole history from childhood to death ).
