Yes this can happen in a redirected motion .
A body thrown up moves under constant retardation and from the highest point it begins to fall downwards.

Constant or not, if the acceleration is in a different direction from the velocity then yes, direction and therefore velocity will change. Both acceleration and velocity are vectors and if you change the direction of a vector velocity, even if the magnitude (speed) is the same it is still a change in velocity.
