The dispersive power ω=μu-μrμ-1 cannot be negative.

The w sign will be positive as μ is still larger than 1 and as μv > μr.

Explanation:

It can not be negative as the violet light refractive index. It's always bigger than red light. The refractive index is also inversely proportional to λ2.

The w sign will be optimistic as μ is still larger than 1 and as μv > μr.

Dispersive power :

The ability of a impermeable medium to distinguish different colors of light by refraction as determined by the difference in refractivity for two given widely different wavelengths, separated by refractivity at some Intermediate Wavelengths mentioned .
