Can the wave function y=r(x-vt) or y= r log(x+vt),y= r√(vt-x) represent a wave motion ?

No, This is because in dealing with wave motion, we asume that the wave function is continuous ,single valued,harmonic and finite at every point .As the give functions are neither harmonic nor finite therefore,They cannon represent wave motion

wave function :
The function which describe mathematically the motion of a wave pulse are called wave function .

Consider a srtring fixed at one end and held taunt by pulling thw free end .

let the wave pulse travel with velocity = v
the discplacement = y
depends upon

# distance from origin ( x )
# time ( t )

y = f ( x )

As it clear that wave motion is finite and harmonic at every point .

But Here the function is non- harmonic and not finite .

So it not represent wave motion .
