The empirical formula of the compound is CH2O

Molecular mass =180g

mass of carbon (C)=12

hydrogen (H)=1

oxygen (O) =16

so empirical mass of the molecule =12+(2×1)+16=30

molecular mass of the compound/empirical formula mass of the compound = n

180/30=6

molecular formula = n×empirical formula

= 6×(CH2O)

=C6H12O6
