Light dependant photosynthesis is the type of photosynthesis that requires sunlight whereas light independent phase does not require sunlight. Light dependant are therefore called light reactions and light independent are called dark reaction or Blackman's reaction. Light reactions couple the energy obtained by the absorption of photons of light with oxidation- reduction reactions. These light reactions occur within the thylakoid membrane. These reactions synthesize energy. Dark reaction om the other hand uses energy when there is no light. They are chemical reactions involved in fixing of CO2 for the synthesis of carbohydrates, sugar or glucose. These reactions occur in the stroma.
