The poet tells us about how a jealous person like Ralph the rover digs a hole for himself. He cuts the inchcape bell from the rock because he did not liked people praising the Abbot of Aberbrothok who had placed the bell to save the mariners from the dangerous inchcape rock.Ralph the rover ends up himself being stuck in the storm and his ship hits the rock.
