Question :-

If the mean of 8, 10, 7 , x+2 and 6 is 9,find the value of x?

Solution:-

Given observations = 8,10,7,x+2, 6

Mean=9

Sum of the observations =

8+10+7+x+2+6= 33+x

Number of observations = 5

Mean = Sum of all observations/Number of all observations

=>9 = (33+x)/5

=>9×5 = 33+x

=>45 = 33+x

=>x = 45-33

=>x = 12

Answer:-

The value of x = 12

Question:-

Find the mean of first six multiples of 3 ?

Solution:-

The first six multiples of 3 = 3,6,9,12,15,18

Sum of all observations

=>3+6+9+12+15+18=63

Number of all observations = 6

Mean= Sum of all observations/Number of all observations

Mean = 63/6

Mean = 10.5

Answer:-

The mean of first 6 multiples of 3 = 10.5

Question:-

Find the mean of first five prime numbers?

Solution:-

The first five prime numbers = 2,3,5,7,11

Sum of all observations

=2+3+5+7+11

=>28

Number of all observations = 5

Mean = Sum of all observations/Number of all observations

Mean = 28/5

Mean = 5.6

Answer:-

The mean of first five prime numbers = 5.6

Question:-

The mean of six numbers :x-5;x-1;x;x+2;x+4;x+12 is 15.Find the mean of first four numbers ?

Solution:-

Given observations = x-5;x-1;x;x+2;x+4;x+12

Mean = 15

sum of all observations

=>x-5+x-1+x+x+2+x+4+x+12

=>6x-6+18

=>6x+12

Number of all observations = 6

Mean = Sum of all observations/Number of all observations

=>15 = (6x+12)/6

=>15 = 6(x+2)/6

=>15= x+2

=>x=15-2

x=13

x-5=13-5=8

x-1=13-1=12

x+2=13+2=15

x+4=13+4=17

x+12=13+12=25

Then the observations are 8,12,13,15,17,25

The first four numbers = 8,12,13,15

Their sum = 8+12+13+15=48

Mean = Sum of all observations/Number of all observations

Mean = 48/4

Mean = 12

Answer:-

The mean of first four numbers = 12
