Can water or copper sulphate solution be used instead of kerosene to store sodium?why or why not

Explanation:

No because Na is very reactive with water and much more reactive than Cu .

The following reaction can take place :-

Na +H2O →NaOH + H2

Na + CuSO4→Na2SO4+ Cu .

The reaction will be exothermic , fast and spontaneous .

So we should not store sodium in water or CuSO4

We can store it in kerosene as it cuts its contact with air or moisture or any other compound whose cation is less reactive than sodium .
