Can we give AC input to IC 79XX

The 79xx series of ICs are three pin negative voltage controller integrated circuit. That means it maintains a constant (negative) voltage at output and the variation of input voltage doesn't effect the output of the IC. Since it is a voltage regulator circuit. So, in the input terminal, only negative DC voltage has to be supplied as because there is no polarity in AC voltage.
