Good question. The answer to your question is MAYBE! If your computer is low on memory, adding more will almost certainly speed it up, but if you are using Windows, first try increasing the pagefile also called virtual memory. This is memory on you hard drive that “fools” your computer into thinking that it has more RAM memory. Of course, it depends on how full AND also how fast your hd drive is to see an increase in speed! Generally speaking, adding more RAM memory will usually have the effect of speeding up the computer, BUT, dang. there are always buts! Seems like it anyway. SO your computer will run faster with more RAM. Adding more will never slow it down. But, whether adding more RAM memory will speed up a specific program, now that is another question. Some programs, like graphics ones for instance, are more processor intensive, so more memory will not do very much to increase it's speed. Only changing the CPU will really help with that. One way to simply check to see if adding memory will help increase your speed, is to increase your virtual memory, then run you computer and watch to see if your hard drive light seems to be on a lot. If it is, (and you have defragged it), it usually means that your computer is accessing the virtual a lot, because the computer or the specific program is wanting more memory. In that case, adding more RAM will almost certainly speed up you machine. I hope that helps you. Good luck.
